Every fisherman should know how to use a
spinnerbait, especially since the spinnerbait is considered the most popular and versatile fishing lure.
If you want to know how to use a spinnerbait, you should first start with learning the basic spinnerbait retrieving techniques. Spinnerbaits can be retrieved in many ways, but the most popular are slow-rolling, stop-and-go and burning.
Slow-rolling is normally used during cold weather and is retrieved at a slow pace where the spinnerbait barely touches the bottom or is at a depth where you can barely see the blades. The
spinner blades continue to spin steadily with the slow retrieve.
The stop-and-go retrieve is used when bass are swimming towards or with the spinnerbait, but fails to strike. While retrieving, immediately stop so that the spinnerbait drops a few feet, then begin retrieving again. You can also jerk the spinnerbait to move it forward quickly. Usually this action will initiate a strike.
The burning retrieve or fast retrieve is usually performed in clear water and positioned a few feet from the surface with the intention of getting a reaction strike.
Spinnerbait Tip: To increase the chances of landing a fish, usually a largemouth bass or a smallmouth bass, attaching a trailer hook is a popular component enhancement for spinnerbaits.
